Based on the results of a study of the American Academy of Pediatrics (APP), half of the infants in the United States still sleep with the risk of SIDS. Experts from the National Infant Sleep Position Study examined a number of beds chosen by parents since tahun1993-2010.
Many of them are putting the baby in bed filled with blankets and pillows. The existence of a wide blankets and pillows also feared to cover the baby's face so hard to breathe. This often happens when the baby moves his feet that cause the blanket over the baby's face and feared cause suffocation.
AAP advises parents put their babies to sleep on a mattress without blankets and pillows, including baby dolls and other toys. This does not mean letting the baby sleep without blankets and cold at night but wearing a sleeping bag that can warm the baby's body.
This baby sleeping bag is usually a long garments that cover the entire body, including the hands and feet. This outfit is more secure because it will not cover the face when the baby moving.
A site in the UK charity, The Lullaby Trust, wrote that the cushion has been proven to increase the risk of SIDS by 2.5 times. In the site was also recommended bassinet without equipped with a cot bumper, or pads for lining the walls of the bassinet.
Plain simple bed would be safer for the baby. The use of beds at risk of SIDS is generally performed by a teenage mother.
AAP said, the new parents should continue to be disseminated about the risk of SIDS associated crib. SIDS usually occurs in infants under one year old.
Put the baby in a supine body position and movement watch. Do not bring your baby to sleep on a couch or chair. This could be dangerous if you fell asleep. Similarly to not breast-feed while you are sleepy.
In addition, keep the baby from cigarette smoke and pollution. If you smoke, do not sleep in the same bed with your baby. In the first six months, the baby should be placed in the basket is a separate sleeping lying still in the room with you.
